The role

The newly created role of I.T. Infrastructure Engineer - End User Compute reports to the I.T. Infrastructure Manager. The position supports the College by ensuring that Staff and Students have reliable, predictable and contemporary technology platforms to work from. The quality-focused output of this role will allow Students to focus on their learning and staff to focus on their teaching or to perform their role in a professional services capacity. 

The role is accountable for the continuity and reliability of I.T. services, maintaining cyber security standards, and safeguarding the integrity of data. Key to the role is maintaining and improving the College’s standard operating environment across supported devices, including Pymble’s Wise Phone initiative and ownership of all assigned service requests and incidents within the ITSM tool (Fresh Service).
 
The position works collaboratively with I.T. Service Desk Technicians and I.T. Infrastructure Engineers to deliver quality outcomes and drive operational improvements through scripting, automation, and innovative practices. Responsibilities include maintaining the physical and operational health of I.T. assets, troubleshooting escalated issues, and applying ITIL and Incident Management principles. 

The role also contributes to the continuous enhancement of systems by identifying potential issues, providing recommendations, and sharing knowledge across the I.T. team. Supporting colleagues and clients through training and guidance, the incumbent ensures timely resolution of incidents within defined service levels.

Our kind of team member

You will demonstrate the following attributes and capabilities:

  • 4+ years’ experience providing I.T. support in a professional organisation
  • Proficiency with shell scripting languages/interfaces such as PowerShell and Bash highly desirable
  • Understanding of API & Database integration protocols and concepts
  • Knowledge of computer hardware including desktops, laptops, mobile devices and peripherals
  • Audio Visual equipment and software support experience desirable but not essential
  • Demonstrable experience supporting one or more computer operating systems such as Windows, Android, MacOS, iOS
  • Experience in device management and software deployment platforms such as Microsoft Intune, SCCM or Jamf
  • Proficiency in administering user and computer records in Microsoft Active Directory
  • Additional competency with Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, Microsoft Entra and Office365 Administration desirable
  • Experience supporting end user software, such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, Google Chrome etc
  • Experience with IT Service Management tools to manage, allocate and monitor service requests
  • Mechanical aptitude to enable resolution of technical issues
  • Driver license desirable to support off-site locations
  • Ability to work in a team environment as well as autonomously
  • Proactive, analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, testing and documentation practices
  • Willingness to support and promote the ethos and values of the College
